How Much Does a Ceramic Coating Cost and What Determines the Price?

1 June 2026 · 3 min read

"How much does a ceramic coating cost?" — we hear this question almost every day. Answering "it depends" can sound like an excuse, but with ceramic coatings, it's simply honest. Two cars of the same make can end up with completely different quotes, and it's not because someone's trying to charge more.

Below we explain what actually determines the price of a ceramic coating — so you know what you're paying for, and why it's worth comparing offers sensibly rather than just by the number.

What Determines the Price of a Ceramic Coating?

The final cost comes down to a few things:

  • Body size and type — a small hatchback has less surface area to cover than an SUV or a large estate. More bodywork means more material and more work.
  • Condition of the paint — often the biggest factor. If the paint has scratches, swirl marks, or dullness, it needs correcting before the coating goes on (more on that below).
  • Scope of work — just the body, or also the wheels, glass, trim, interior elements. Every extra part adds time.
  • Surface preparation — thorough washing, decontamination, degreasing. Ceramic coating only bonds to a perfectly prepared surface, and that takes hours of work.
  • Type of coating — different products have different durability and properties, which affects the price.

Why Does the Condition of the Paint Push the Price Up So Much?

A ceramic coating is transparent — it locks in whatever's underneath it. If you apply it over scratched paint, you "seal in" those scratches along with the shine. That's why many cars get paint correction before ceramic coating — removing those imperfections first.

And that's where the difference shows up: a car that's a few years old and has been through a lot of automatic car washes will need more work than paint that's almost new. Hence two very different quotes for seemingly similar cars.

You're not paying for "wiping the car with a liquid" — you're mainly paying for paint preparation, because that's what determines the final result and how long it lasts.

Is the Cheapest Offer Worth It?

Not always. A very low price usually means something's being cut — most often paint preparation or working time. The result might look good for the first few weeks and then disappoint.

On the other hand, not every car needs the full, multi-stage package. Sometimes a smaller scope is enough. So instead of comparing the numbers alone, it's worth comparing exactly what's included in the price.

So What Does It Actually Cost?

Because every car is different, we don't quote a single price "for everyone" — that would be misleading. You'll find current price ranges on our detailing price list, and we'll put together an exact quote after seeing your car and assessing the condition of the paint.
